Over the years, fine lines and wrinkles develop on your face as a result of sun exposure, which causes the skin to loose its integrity and become thin. Smoking and repetitive facial expressions, such as smiling and raising your eyebrows, can accentuate wrinkles around your mouth, eyes, and forehead. Careful placement of fillers and neurotoxins can soften and shape your face without the need of surgery. Your dermatology team will listen to your goals and suggest products and therapeutic interventions that can help you attain vibrant, healthy-looking skin.

Neurotoxins are injectables used to soften or remove the wrinkles on your face such as those on the forehead between the eyebrows. The two neurotoxins used at Northwest Skin Specialists are Botox® and Dysport®, which are equally safe and effective in relaxing the muscles that create wrinkles. These products last between three and six months, and must be repeated to maintain their effect.

We use fillers to add volume or fullness to correct facial wrinkles in deep folds and assist in reshaping facial features. Our preferred fillers, due to their efficacy and safety, are hyaluronic acid fillers, including Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvéderm®, and Juvederm Voluma™. They can be used to enhance lips with volume and contouring; diminish wrinkles and fine lines, such as those that occur between the nose and the mouth; and to replace volume lost on the cheeks as their underlying fat pads diminish over time. Each of these fillers can reverse changes related to facial aging in a safe and efficacious manner, resulting in a natural, healthy appearance.

Restylane and Perlane

Restylane and Perlane are hyaluronic acid fillers that are commonly used for lip enhancement (volume and contouring); to diminish wrinkles and aging lines on the face, such as the nasolabial folds (nose and mouth lines); melomental folds (sad mouth contours); crow’s feet; and forehead wrinkles (frown lines). Treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers typically lasts between six and twelve months, depending on the individual and the part of the face being treated. Many patients experience some mild swelling and bruising after treatment. Rarely, individuals develop small firm lumps that are reversible with an injectable enzyme. Restylane was the first hyaluronic acid filler approved by the FDA as a dermal filler.

Juvederm and Voluma

Juvederm and Voluma are both hyaluronic acid injectable fillers used to provide volume and lift for the midface. The selection of these fillers for improvement of photo-aging and volume loss on the face is directed towards areas typically around the nose or mouth and/or the cheeks. Juvaderm typically lasts 6 to 12 months; Voluma provides a natural look that lasts up to two years. We recommend fillers based on your goals, your facial features, and the best way to achieve the most natural, youthful profile.

Fractional Skin Resurfacing

Fractional skin resurfacing is a safe, nonablative procedure that uses controlled microbeams of laser to cause changes below the skin’s surface. After treatment, the body’s natural healing process creates a new and more organized collagen. This process helps rejuvenate the skin from the inside, resulting in improvements in the appearance of wrinkles, scars, pigment spots, and other problems on the surface of the skin. Northwest Skin Specialists use the Palomar LUX 1540, often coupling this technology with the Palomar Photorejuvenation Laser, to mitigate the appearance of both deep wrinkles and surface changes related to aging skin.

Skin Tightening

When skin shows signs of aging or when problem areas, such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks or arms, are resistant to firming exercises, you may want to consider some form of skin-tightening treatment. We can help you attain a more youthful appearance or tighten areas where skin remains stubbornly flabby by using an effective, non-invasive therapy, such as Exilis Elite™ and Réjuvapen®. Both are excellent options for men and women who want visible results without undergoing surgery.

Réjuvapen utilizes nine micro needles in a small cartridge to create invisible micro-perforations in the epidermis and the top layer of the dermis. In response, the skin accelerates its natural repair mechanisms and starts producing collagen and elastin, thus repairing itself from the inside out. This treatment also enhances the absorption of RP Complex™, an anti-aging cream that is applied during the procedure. In addition to tightening skin, Réjuvapen reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and improves the appearance of scars and stretch marks. It is a safe, painless and affordable option.

Exilis Elite

Exilis is a safe, effective body contouring and skin-tightening device that uses high-frequency radio waves (heat energy) to shrink and dissolve fat cells, stimulate collagen, and tighten loose skin. This FDA approved cosmetic treatment is non-invasive, safe, and effective. Treatments take less than an hour and require no downtime. You will experience the heat from the treatment device during treatment with brief redness on the skin’s surface that quickly dissipates. Typically, four to six treatments are recommended for body contouring and two to four for skin laxity. Most patients report visible improvements after the second treatment. Collagen stimulation with remodeling continues over several months after completion of your treatment series. A consultation is recommended to determine if you are a candidate for this approach to body contouring and skin tightening.
